AWS Security Sales Specialist interview: what the posting asks for and how to prepare
Applying for a Security Sales Specialist role at AWS? This guide reads the live job posting and turns it into a prep list. We are independent and not affiliated with Amazon or AWS.
Everything below comes from the public posting, checked on 26 October 2026. The postings do not describe the interview rounds. Ask your recruiter which interviews you will have.
What the posting says
The Security Sales Specialist, AWS Industries posting describes "the primary 'hunter' for AWS Security opportunities". The posting says the role is "not an overlay or support role". The seller is paired with a dedicated Security Solution Architect.
The listed responsibilities fall into four groups:
- Demand generation: find and own new security opportunities in assigned territories. Run plays for new AI applications on Bedrock and for consolidation and cost work.
- Competitive displacement: move customers off incumbent security providers. The posting names Wiz and Splunk.
- CISO engagement: build independent, trusted relationships with CISOs and security buying centres.
- Collaboration: work with account managers. The specialist leads origination and strategy. The account manager handles commercial execution.
What the basic qualifications tell you
The posting lists these as basic qualifications:
- 7+ years of B2B or enterprise sales, with a focus on hunting new business.
- 5+ years selling cybersecurity solutions to large enterprise customers.
- Relationships at C-level, specifically with CISOs and security executives.
- Proven ability to generate pipeline alone through outbound prospecting, whitespace analysis and account planning.
- Experience in complex, multi-stakeholder sales cycles in Fortune 500 and Global 2000 accounts.
Expect your stories to be tested against each line. If you cannot show a CISO relationship you built, expect that gap to come up.
Which Leadership Principles to prepare
AWS publishes all 16 principles at amazon.jobs. The posting does not say which ones your interviewers will pick. These four match its wording most closely:
| Principle | A story to have ready |
|---|---|
| Customer Obsession | A buyer whose real worry differed from the brief |
| Ownership | A deal you opened with no help from marketing |
| Dive Deep | A competitive displacement where you learned the incumbent's contract and gaps |
| Earn Trust | A CISO relationship you built before there was a deal |
Prepare two stories for every principle. The Leadership Principles guide shows what each one tests when you sell. The AWS sales interview questions page lists the question patterns.
Stories a hiring panel can test
Write each as situation, task, action and result. Put one number in the result.
- A security deal you opened from cold. Say how you chose the account and how you reached the buyer.
- A displacement of a rival product. Say what the customer stood to save or gain, and how you measured it.
- A deal with several stakeholders. Name the CISO, the security team and the finance contact, and what each wanted.
- A deal you lost. Say what you changed afterwards.
- A time you worked with a technical partner. The posting pairs you with a Security Solution Architect, so show how you split the work.

Know the topics, not the product manual
The preferred qualifications list CSPM, CNAPP, SIEM and SOAR, identity management, data protection and network security. They also mention security for generative AI workloads and sales into regulated industries.
You do not need to design the architecture. You do need to explain, in plain words, why a CISO would consolidate tools. Practise a two-minute answer for "why would I move from my current vendor?"
Questions to ask the recruiter
- How is the territory split between industry business units?
- How do the specialist and the account manager share credit on a deal?
- Is there a presentation or written exercise?
The posting does not answer these, so ask them.
Using the kit
The Cloud Sales Interview Kit has a story bank that scores itself and 29 question patterns. It is written for AWS sales loops, so it fits this one.

Questions
Is the AWS Security Sales Specialist an overlay role?
The posting says it is not. It calls the seller the primary hunter for AWS Security opportunities in assigned territories.
Do I need a security certification?
The posting lists CISSP, CCSP and AWS Security Specialty as a plus, not a requirement. Sales experience with CISOs is a basic qualification.
What are the interview stages?
The posting does not say. Ask your recruiter. The Account Executive guide shows the usual loop.
