Word-for-word replies
Reply A, to learn: "That makes sense, a lot of teams do. If you could change one thing about it, what would it be?"
Reply B, to leave the door open: "Good to know. Would it be useful if I checked back when your contract comes up for renewal? When is that?"
Do
- Ask one question and then stop talking.
- Write down the gap they name.
- Book a short call only about that gap.
See inside
Avoid
- Naming the competitor in a bad light.
- Claiming you are cheaper without proof.
- Arguing that they chose wrongly.
Next step
No change wanted? Thank them. Set a reminder for the renewal date. Use the coaching framework to practise the question.

Questions
Should an SDR criticise the competitor?
No. Ask what the buyer would change and listen.
What if they are happy with it?
Thank them and ask when the contract renews. Check back then.
Is it worth calling buyers who use a competitor?
Yes, if you have a clear gap to offer. Track your own meeting rate.
